The epistemology of think tanks

Think tanks have a property that makes them prima facie not credible as sources of knowledge: they are ideologically aligned. Their conclusions are to a large extent predetermined by this alignment. Why would it be rational for us to update our beliefs in a proposition based on the testimony of an agent with predetermined conclusions? More generally, what could be the contribution of think tanks to our knowledge-seeking collective endeavours provided this ideological alignment is inevitable?

This research project combines conceptual analysis with empirical research in order to answer these questions.
