Institutionalization of chief scientific advisors

This project, funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant, aims to study the chief scientific advisor model and its variations over time and across different locations. The model is approached from a historical perspective, tracing the intellectual and socio-political processes that have led to its current popularity. The objective is not to identify the causes of this popularity, but rather to describe the international diffusion of the model and its adaptation to regional contexts, as well as to interpret the successive arguments put forward by various actors to promote or criticize it. This project will be carried out in collaboration with Julien Prud'homme and Mathieu Ouimet and is part of the research component of the International Francophone Network for Scientific Advice, of which I am the director.
