Diversification of knowledge in economics: between meaningful and meaningless perspectives

Talk (in French) by Christophe Schinckus (School of Management, U of Leicester).

Abstract

In a first step, I will present the symbolic evolution of financial markets that illustrates the growing “consumer-oriented” dimension of finance. Afterwards, I will deal with the growing computerization of finance in order to show that this double evolution of the financial sphere transforms financial markets into “hyper-markets”. The financial markets are then presented as a result of what Baudrillard calls a “hyper-reality”. Finally, I will explain to what extent this “hyper-reality” favours a plurality of theoretical interpretations of the financial reality.
